Each one of us in the book club had previously read this book but never had the chance to discuss it, so we made a commitment to re-read The Shack in April 2011. I actually read it the first time in the Fall of 2008 and finished the last few chapters the day we buried my mom in December 2008. I was happy to re-read this fictional account of how one man’s painful past ushers him into the presence of God in a most unexpected place. The first several chapters will break your heart into pieces and the last few chapters will glue it back together. The author is clear that this work is fiction and takes many liberties interpreting scripture; however, his views opened my narrow mind to a more infinite, omnipotent God that hadn’t before existed to me.
